New call centre planned for Free State

Government’s efforts to stimulate growth in the BPO sector and attract industry away from the traditional cluster of Joburg, Cape Town and Durban has proven fruitful, with news of a new 600-seat call centre to be located in the Free State.

Trade and Industry Minister Mandisi Mpahlwa said the news showed that the government’s strategy to create employment opportunities in the more remote areas of the country was paying off, adding that he expects the momentum to continue.

The BPO industry is being targeted by the government as one of its priority sectors, as part of the Asgisa initiative, for job creation as well as attracting international business.

Last week Mpahlwa indicated that current forecasts predict the BPO sector to grow globally by 50% a year over the next four years.
